Health & Social Care

About Health and Social Care

Gain the required qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience to start your career in the care sector. There is a need for more people to work in the care sector and there are lots of opportunities for those with the right skills and qualifications to have successful careers and make a real difference by supporting others.
From social work to youth work, care homes to hospitals and many other settings, you’ll learn about and experience the careers available.
On all courses you’ll be taught by industry experienced teachers and undertake work placements with employers as part of the course, to grow your practical experience and help to find the career you want.

Your CAVC

All courses involve meaningful work placements in health and social care settings. These develop valuable skills and practical experience for your starting your career. CAVC offers the Royal College of Nursing Prince of Wales Nursing Cadets Scheme, preparing young people for careers in nursing with further practical work experience to support their future. Our teachers are also qualified and experienced in the care sector.

Your Industry

Currently, there are almost 103,500 people employed within this sector in the Cardiff Capital Region, with employment numbers expected to reach 105,000 by 2027 (Lightcast 2022). Projections also indicate that around 20,000 more employees will be needed over the next 10 years. (Social Care Wales 2018).

Your Future

Many health and social care students progress directly into employment in a wide range of roles and settings including community care, care homes and work in hospitals. Some Level 3 students progress onto university to study subjects including Social Work, Youth and Community Care.
