Childcare & Working in Schools

All of our childcare, early years and health and social care courses give you the opportunity to gain the knowledge, skills, experience and industry qualifications you need to start your career.

About Childcare & Working in Schools

Gain the required qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience to start your career working with children. Our childcare courses help you step into a career working in nurseries, pre-school and a variety of childcare settings.
Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools is an alternative route for those who would like to work as teaching assistants in schools and colleges, with the option to specialise in supporting those with additional learning needs. On all courses you’ll be taught by industry experienced teachers and undertake work placements with employers as part of the course, to grow your practical experience.

Your CAVC

All courses involve meaningful work placements in childcare, early years, schools and other settings. These develop valuable skills and practical experience for your starting your career. Our students are recognised as among the best in Wales at what they do! Competing in national skills competitions and winning Gold in Childcare in Skills Competition Wales.

Your Industry

Currently, approximately 101,500 people are employed in the social care sector within the Cardiff Capital Region, with projections indicating this number will rise to 102,800 by 2029 (Lightcast, 2024). The Social Care Workforce Delivery Plan for 2024-2027 outlines the increasing demand for a skilled social care workforce by 2030.

Your Future

Many childcare students progress directly into employment in nurseries and childcare centres. Some from the Level 3 course progress onto university to study subjects including Child Development or Teaching. Those on Supported Teaching and Learning in Schools courses also progress into work in a range of primary and secondary schools.
