About this course

This course provides both theoretical and practical driver training to enable the learner to gain a Category C1 LGV driving Licence.

It is aimed at learners who wish to become drivers of smaller Large Goods Vehicles i.e. those up to 7.5tonnes gross vehicle weight.
They will then be capable of gaining employment with Logistics Companies specialising in Urban Distribution and Express Parcels Carriers.

The Trainee not only gains the qualification to drive such vehicles but also learns about Road Safety, the scope of the Logistics Sector and an insight into role of an LGV Driver.

The total time you will need to commit to the programme will be approx. 80 hours, a breakdown is shown in Teaching & Assessment Tab.

This FREE course is only available to adults that are eligible for a Personal Learning Account (PLA). Personal Learning Accounts, funded by the Welsh Government, are available to employed adults living in Wales that wish to develop skills to progress or change career.

What you will study

Pre-drive vehicle checks
Driver’s Hours regulations
Tachographs
Road Traffic Law
Vehicle types 
Inspections and Maintenance
Load security
Hazard perception

Teaching and assessment

Self-study is carried out at a time to suit you.

All other appointments and training are held daytime Monday-Friday.

Total Time: approx 80 hours

Self-Study distance learning is in your own time via an online study portal.

Distance learning: 40 hours

Practical training: 40 hours

Theory test and practical driving test.

You will need access to a PC/Laptop to carry out this training.
