Your route to free courses to progress or change career

A Personal Learning Account (PLA) allows you to access FREE courses and professional qualifications that develop your skills and help you to progress or change your career.

All courses available to you through a Personal Learning Account provide the skills and qualifications that local employers are looking for. They focus on sectors that are growing in this region and where there is currently a need for people with these skills. The goal is that at the end of the course or courses you undertake, there will be well-paid job vacancies available for you to apply for.  

Applying for a Personal Learning Account (PLA) 
To be eligible for a Personal Learning Account (PLA) you must: 

  • live in Wales 
  • be 19 years or over 

and must fall into either of the following categories: 

Category 1 - Employed or self-employed, earning under £26,000 


Category 2 - Employed or self-employed, earning any amount, but currently: 

  • furloughed (or have been on furlough) 
  • working on a zero hours contract  
  • agency staff  
  • at risk of being made redundant from your job  
  • working in a sector or industry that is likely to see (or has seen) a negative impact from COVID-19 which places your employment at risk.  

You cannot get a PLA if are under 19 years of age, or in full-time education or unemployed.
