Information for parents, carers and guardians

Useful info for parents and guardians

We understand that as a parent or guardian you want the best for your son or daughter. At Cardiff and Vale College we believe that young people need to learn to manage their own time, explore their options and find out what they are really good at. The College works to inspire young people to develop a passion for what they’re studying in an award winning environment that makes a real contribution to students’ aspirations. Students are supported through their studies by a combination of subject and personal tutoring with regular feedback and guidance.

Open Evenings

Organised to showcase CAVC to young people, so they can experience the College, see the facilities and meet the staff who could be teaching them. Many parents, guardians and carers come along to support their children and see everything for themselves!

Young people get as much support as they would in school, if not more. There is an assessment process which places the student on a level of course that’s right for their abilities and an induction to welcome the student to the college.

Get an application in early!

Cardiff and Vale College starts interviewing in November, for courses that start the September after, so please remind your children or young person to put an application form in early, so they can be offered a place on their first choice course.

Student life

Student life is bustling at CAVC. Young people can take part in activities including sports teams and academies, fitness suites, enterprise challenges, outdoor pursuits, clubs and events. There's even guest speakers and competitions through the year.
