Aerospace Engineering

Train for a career in aerospace - one of the fastest growing industries in the UK.

About Aerospace Engineering

Train for a career in Aerospace Engineering – with exciting opportunities to work in Wales and across the world. All our Aerospace Engineering courses are based at our International Centre for Aerospace Training (ICAT) - a renowned facility – dedicated to training the future talent for this exciting industry.
This iconic centre includes specialist workshops, laboratories and a huge, real-life hangar with aircraft where you will develop your practical skills. The Centre has fantastic links with industry, including British Airways, Boeing, GE and Caerdav. This means you gain the right knowledge, skills and industry qualifications on your course, as well as industry work placements – all preparing you for a career in the aerospace industry. Some learners even go on to start careers with these companies straight after college.

Your CAVC

Our Level 3 learners can study A Level Maths alongside their course – increasing UCAS points and furthering their skills for the future. Our learners are recognised as among the best in the country at what they do – including representing Wales in Aircraft Maintenance at WorldSkills UK! We are the only college in Wales to have CAA 147 approval, enabling learners to gain a professional license to practice whilst at CAVC.

Your Industry

The UK Aerospace industry remains as number two on the world stage and the largest in Europe with £35bn turnover, 123,000 direct employees and 3,900 Apprentices. Wales is a centre of excellence for Aerospace manufacturing – over 160 companies employ in excess of 23,000 people. It has around 10% of the UK’s Aerospace industry which includes 20% of the UK Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) market. Aerospace Wales Forum (2022).

Your Future

Most Level 2 learners progress onto Level 3 study at ICAT, on a full-time course or through an apprenticeship. From Level 3, many learners progress onto higher education, including ICAT’s own BEng Hons Aircraft Engineering, run in partnership with Kingston University. Others progress onto apprenticeships and employment in aircraft maintenance. Both options see great progression into successful careers this sector.
