About this course

This course is designed for school leavers with a passion for aircraft maintenance. This one‑year, full‑time programme is your launchpad into the aviation industry. You’ll develop the core skills and technical knowledge needed to become an aircraft fitter through a blend of classroom learning, hands‑on training, and real industry experience. As part of the programme, you’ll also complete dedicated work experience with Caerdav, giving you valuable insight into a live aviation environment and the opportunity to progress on to an apprenticeship program.

*This course is predominantly aimed at 16-19 year olds.

What you will study

You will study a Level 3 Diploma alongside a qualification in Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) and two ESW, giving you a strong technical foundation for a career in aircraft maintenance. Throughout the programme, you’ll cover a wide range of aviation engineering subjects, including:

  • Aircraft systems
  • Gas turbine engines
  • Aircraft maintenance practices
  • Radio and radar systems

Facilities

This course is based at the International Centre for Aerospace Training (ICAT).  This facility includes specialist classrooms, laboratories and a real life hangar where you will develop your practical skills. The weekly work experience placement will take place at Caerdav's industry leading maintenance facility.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs Grade A* - C to include Maths A* - B (or equivalent) and English at A*-B OR a suitable level 2 Engineering qualification at Distinction grade or above with either an appropriate Maths unit graded Distinction or above, or Grade A* - B in GCSE Maths. Candidates will need to provide a personal statement. Offer will be subject to a successful interview with Caerdav. Successful candidates will require PPE for this course, including steel toe cap boots and overalls for practical learning and black workwear trousers for work placement.
