The events that have taken place over recent weeks have shaken the world. They have highlighted a need for individuals and organisations alike to take a stand and speak out against longstanding inequalities and issues affecting our communities.
As a college, we have taken a little time before releasing this statement to listen, learn, reflect and provide a considered and meaningful response to something we take extremely seriously.
We are proud to serve the most diverse community in Wales and have been awarded Leaders in Diversity status for our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. We condemn all forms of racist and discriminatory behaviour. We strive to eliminate discrimination and overcome the disadvantages that exist in our society and have resulted in people being treated less favourably than others.
Our Strategic Equality Plan 2020-2024 sets out our commitment to do this and our objectives and associated actions to ensure we meet our responsibility to provide opportunities for individuals to achieve their potential in a safe environment that’s free of discrimination.
We can always do more. Now is a time to step forward and ask ourselves questions so that we can understand the best way to support Black Lives Matter, stand with and speak up for our learners, staff and community and fight racism in education and all aspects of society. We will engage staff, learners and our community in our journey to do this. We will continue to listen, learn and in turn educate and deliver change that makes a real impact on society and our region.
For staff and students who have been affected by the recent events and wish to seek support, as ever our support services remain here for you.
