The Level 2 in Photography is a BTEC Diploma delivered by Media Academy Cymru (MAC), in Barry.
This full-time course introduces students to the key areas of the moving image and lens; photography; graphic and digital communication. The course is designed to focus on students’ practical skills development; a creative media project and how to respond to a creative brief.
You will achieve a diploma in Art and Design Skills, equivalent to 3 GCSEs.
This BTEC Level 2 programme comprises of 4 modules which provides opportunities to learn how to use a digital camera effectively, create lighting set ups, use editing software (Lightroom & photoshop), respond to professional briefs, and create a high-quality portfolio. It will also help develop interpersonal, soft skills relevant to the creative industries.
Students will participate in individual and joint creative projects for each module and build skills in planning, teamwork, theory skills and practical skills.
The work produced for each module will form the basis for assessment. Throughout the year you will build a comprehensive portfolio that will be significant for your progression to future education or employment.
MAC takes pride in delivering classes in a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere, focusing on your strengths to help you grow your confidence. You will learn in a small group of 12-16 students.
This programme comprises of 4 coursework modules.
All equipment and software will be provided by MAC.
No previous experience is required and there are no formal entry requirements. However, it is helpful if you have already achieved a BTEC or GCSE Level 1 in Photography/ Art/ IT / Digital Media or have the equivalent experience. You will be invited to meet your tutors, so together, you can assess your suitability for the course. Attendance of 90% and above is instrumental in your completion of the course. We especially welcome applications from students who have been unable to access similar opportunities elsewhere, are at risk of social exclusion, and are not in education, training or employment. This course is available to anyone between 16-25 years old.

Participants will be able to progress to a Level 3 course in subjects such as: BTEC Level 3 Photography, AS Photography, Creative Media Production; Media Studies or Graphic Design.
During the course, you will be supported to navigate your way to further education, training, apprenticeships or employment.
