The aim of the course is to develop your knowledge, skills and understanding of creative textile techniques that you can apply to your own Textile Art.
On this course you will learn to use a selection of textile processes, become equipped with techincal knowledge and ability, and gain confidence in using specialist equipment. You will have the opportunity to apply your new skills to your own exploration and experimentation of mixed media Textile Art.
As part of this course you will learn about the history of Textile Art and Textile Artists working today, develop a sketchbook practice that includes drawing, build a portfolio of textile samples and create a final Textile Art outcome for your project, that incorporates one or more of the techniques you have learnt.
The textile techniques you will learn on this course include: hand embroidery, freehand machine embroidery and weaving.
Additionally, you will learn about the history of Textile Art, and explore the work of contemporary Textile Artists.
Cardiff and Vale College has extensive Art & Design workshops and computer facilities. This course will be based in the Fashion & Textiles room which is fully equipped with all the textiles equipment you will need for this course.
Other specialist spaces include Fine Art, Ceramics and Printmaking.
