Foundation Apprenticeship in Accountancy

Level: Level 2

Duration: 12 months (in line with academic year)

Location: Barry Campus (1 day a week)

About the Course

The Foundation Apprenticeship in Accountancy provides a solid foundation in finance administration and core accounting skills, including double entry bookkeeping, basic costing, and sales and purchase ledgers. Apprentices will also learn about accountancy-related business and personal skills, and be introduced to the four key themes embedded in the qualification: ethics, technology, communications, and sustainability.

Essential Skills Wales in Application of Number Level 1
Essential Skills Wales in Communication Level 1

Entry Requirements

High standard of numeracy, literacy, and digital literacy
Learners who do not have GCSE grades D–G in Maths and English Language (or Welsh First Language) will complete Essential Skills Wales qualifications at Level 1

Important Points

You must be: Employed for 16 hours or more each week in a suitable role
You must be: Living in Wales or working at least 51% of your contract in Wales
You must be: Aged 16 or over

Apprenticeship in Accountancy

Level: Level 3

Duration: 12 months (in line with academic year)

Location: Barry Campus (1 day a week)

About the Course

The Apprenticeship in Accountancy offers technical training in accounting and is ideal for anyone wishing to pursue a career in accountancy or finance. The Level 3 Diploma in Accounting covers a range of essential and complex accounting tasks, including maintaining cost accounting records and the preparation of reports and returns.

Higher Apprenticeship in Accountancy

Level: Level 4

Duration: 16 months (in line with academic year; Year 1 September–June, Year 2 September–January)

Location: Hybrid / Cardiff City Centre & Barry Campus (1 day a week, evenings 5pm–8pm, with online sessions through Mindful Education)

About the Course

The Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship in Accountancy enhances the skills developed from the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Accounting. The Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting covers high-level accounting and finance topics and tasks. Learners will also study specialist areas such as tax, auditing, credit and debit management, and cash and financial management.
