I have worked in various roles and areas within CAVC since March 2006 from the young age of 16 (almost 19 years!). This showcases my sense of security, belonging and contentment with my employment at CAVC. I commenced on an apprenticeship within the Work Based Learning faculty when realising that this was more appropriate for my circumstances than a FT college course. From this point onwards, I have been provided with ample opportunities to professionally (and personally) develop and progress to the role I have today of Curriculum Business Manager in Technology and Sport. My personal life has changed consistently throughout this time, commencing employment at only 16 years of age and becoming a single mother only four years afterwards, there have been challenging times. However, I have received a significant amount of support and flexibility from the company (and each line manager within each different role) to enable me to not only remain in employment but to continue in work-related education. Without this support, I would not be in the role I am in today.
A huge personal factor for me is the opportunity I have had to grow and excel professionally, as well as gain promotion opportunities. Another important factor is having the pleasure in working within a diverse, supportive workforce; even through challenging times such as COVID. I have built so many wonderful, positive and trusting relationships with colleagues. My current role also keeps me engaged and motivated, and those I work closely with in the Technology and Sport faculty, there is never a dull / quiet day!
Within my length of employment in CAVC, I have been granted the opportunity (through staff development) to achieve Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship in Business/Management, as well as Foundation Degree and BA (Hons) Top Up in Business Studies. I have also been offered various other training programmes, for example upcoming courses for Coaching, First Aid at Work and ACAS investigations training. This development has, and will continue to support with the skills, competencies and knowledge required for me to excel within my existing role, as well as enable continuous progression opportunities.
