Preparation for Work, Life and Learning

Our courses prepare you for independent living, work or further study.

About Preparation for Work, Life and Learning

Our Preparation for Work, Life and Study courses support you to develop your skills for life, including how to access the community, how to live independently, how to communicate effectively or help you develop the skills to go on to a further study. We take an individual approach – working with you to develop your confidence, abilities and independence. There are three entry routes, which all have different routes of progression for your next step.

Towards Independence: These programmes aim to develop learners’ independent living skills for life, community participation and offer an introduction to work skills. You then have an opportunity to progress on to a work or life skills specific course. Above all we aim to meet your individual needs and work with you to improve your life chances.

Towards Study: These programmes include Vocational Access and Skills for Progression in College and support you to develop your skills for further progression in college. You will try out a wide range of vocational career pathways in college including Catering, Construction Trades, IT, Creative Arts, Health and Social Care, Public Services, Business and Sport. This helps you to make an informed choice about your future. Through the course you will also develop your literacy, application of number and IT skills.

Towards Work: Our Work and Life Skills courses develop your personal and employability skills
for the future jobs market. These programmes offer work experience elements where you’ll get a
chance to put what you have learned into practice and build on your CV.
