Cardiff and Vale College announces support for Barry Island 10k

30 Apr 2026

Cardiff and Vale College is reinforcing its long-standing commitment to the Barry community by supporting the Barry Island 10k on the 17th May, and continuing its investment in the town’s future.

The College will take on the role of Event Supporter at the Barry Island 10K, building on its presence at Gŵyl Fach y Fro and ehphasising its commitment to supporting communities across the Vale, taking place over the same weekend.

The combined presence reflects CAVC’s ongoing dedication to engaging with communities across the Vale of Glamorgan - not only through education, but by actively supporting cultural, sporting and community-led initiatives.

The Barry Island 10K route will pass the site of the College’s new campus at Barry Waterfront, currently under development. The state-of-the-art facility will expand opportunities for learners and provide modern, accessible spaces for the wider community to benefit from.

Cardiff and Vale College Principal Sharon James-Evans said: “Barry has always been an important part of our story as a College. By supporting both Gŵyl Fach y Fro and the Barry Island 10K, we’re proud to be part of events that bring people together and celebrate the community.

“With our new campus taking shape at Barry Waterfront, this is also an exciting moment for us to look ahead. As runners pass the site during the 10K, it’s a powerful reminder that we’re not just supporting the community for a weekend - we’re investing in its future for generations to come.”

CAVC has a rich history of delivering education and training in Barry and across the Vale, and the new campus represents the next chapter in that journey. Once complete, it will offer high-quality facilities designed to meet the needs of learners, employers and the wider community.

Through its involvement in events such as Gŵyl Fach y Fro and the Barry Island 10K, the College continues to champion health, wellbeing and community pride, while creating opportunities for students and staff to get involved, volunteer and connect with local people.
