Cardiff and Vale College main partner for Tafwyl 2025

12 Jun 2025

This weekend Cardiff and Vale College will be at Tafwyl – the annual two-day festival that celebrates Welsh language, music, arts and culture in the heart of Cardiff.

The event regularly attracts 40,000+ attendees across the free to attend weekend.

CAVC is once again main partner for event, having entered into a longstanding partnership with organisers Menter Caerdydd a’r Fro to commit as main partner for the next three years. The College is also main partner for Gŵyl Fach y Fro, Menter’s one-day music festival in Barry. This partnership aims to further awareness of the College’s commitment to the Welsh language and supporting its learners, colleagues and community to #SiaradDysguByw #SpeakLearnLive in Welsh.

Tafwyl 2025 runs Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th June in Bute Park, Cardiff and over these two days CAVC will have its own area in the Youth Zone, with bilingual advice, freebies and interactive activities. CAVC will be on the big screens and its Music learners will perform in the youth music tent.

The free, inclusive event also engages non-Welsh speakers with the language and culture of Wales, in line with CAVC’s Welsh Language Strategy ‘Cymraeg i pawb’. Five music stages will feature a wide variety of artists, along with a sports area, kids’ village and an array of street food and market stalls.

Cardiff and Vale College Chair of Corporation, Geraint Evans said: “At CAVC we believe in the power of partnership to grow opportunities and benefit our region, and by entering into a longstanding agreement with Menter Caerdydd a’r Fro to support Tafwyl we hope to provide an inviting atmosphere which appeals not only to the Welsh-speaking community but also to those who wish to engage with the Welsh language for the first time.

“As the largest college group in Wales we are passionate about our country and our language and growing opportunities for all to speak, learn and live in Welsh, as well as providing opportunities for all to become engaged with the culture of today’s Wales, with our mantra being Cymraeg I Bawb”.

Sharon James-Evans, Group Principal of CAVC said: “Each year, we have thousands of students undertaking some or all of their learning bilingually. Welsh speakers can join our college and continue to learn, be supported and assessed bilingually, furthering their valuable Welsh language skills for their future. We also support a culture where Welsh is seen and heard across our college, developing everyone’s Welsh language skills and engaging our diverse population of 30,000 learners each year, with our heritage and culture, and normalising the language for all.

“So, whether you join CAVC at 16 years of age, having been educated through the medium of Welsh, or you start with us as an adult learner who has moved to Cardiff from another country to start your life here – we want to ensure our wonderfully diverse learners from across this region are able to engage with, be inspired by and feel part of our Welsh language and culture. The work of Menter Caerdydd a’r Fro and the inclusive, free festivals of both Tafwyl and Gwyl Fach y Fro align with this”.

Tafwyl is free to attend - so pop over and say 'shwmae' if you're there!
