Cardiff and Vale College Performing Arts learner Emily Jones has won this year’s Best Actress Award at the It’s My Shout Awards.
Emily won for her starring role in the It’s My Shout short film New Beginnings, which was aired on BBC 2 Wales in December 2023.
It’s My Shout is a non-profit Community Interest Company that has been empowering people in Welsh communities to experience working in the Film and TV industry for more than 20 years.
Each year it produces around 12 short films using local people in front of and behind the camera in every role from actors to writers, directors, location scouts, runners, hair and makeup, costume designers and film editors. The short films are then broadcast on BBC and S4C.
CAVC has a long history of its learners taking part in It’s My Shout productions. This year, the College’s short film entry, In Time of Need, was filmed in City Centre Campus and involved 20 CAVC learners. The main cast of learners Thomas Rees, Georgia Barley, Emily Allan, Noah Wilton Jones and Max Cooper were also nominated for Best Ensemble Cast in the It’s My Shout Awards.
Other CAVC learners who were nominated for It’s My Shout Awards were: Dasha Shaughnessy for Best Locations Assistant, Osian Wyn Rudge for Best Stills Photographer, Molly Griffiths for Best Lighting Assistant and Mia Jones and Tierney Parker for Best Hair and Makeup.
Last year, CAVC Performing Arts learner Katie Pritchard won Best Actress in the It’s My Shout Awards. The short film she starred in, Small Change, is also on the shortlist for the 2024 Celtic Media Festival Fringe Awards in the Short Drama (Screen) category.
CAVC Principal Sharon James-Evans said: “Congratulations to Emily for winning the Best Actress Award, and a huge well done to all the other CAVC who were nominated in this year’s It’s My Shout Awards.
“Over the years many of our learners have gained valuable work experience in all aspects of film making from acting through to costume design and hair and makeup, so we have seen first-hand the excellent work that It’s My Shout Does and we are delighted to support them.”
