It is with much sadness and regret that we inform you that our beloved Vice Chair of Governors, Bart Haines, passed away last Thursday evening after a short illness.
Bart had been a Governor of Barry College and subsequently, Cardiff and Vale College for over 20 years, a voluntary role to which he selflessly gave his time, expertise and energy. Bart was Vice Chair of Governors for the last 3 years and had just commenced his second term of office in this role.
Bart was a huge advocate of the opportunities that FE could give to all learners, putting them at the heart of everything that he did. Alongside that, he was the most passionate supporter of the CAVC Rugby team, often to be seen at matches and shouting from the sidelines! Bart was also an equally ardent enthusiast of our creative arts learners, from sitting at the front row of the Michael Sheen Theatre watching one of the many performances, to joining the most recent Governor Christmas Concert on-line with much delight and praise at the talent of the performers.
Bart was a true gentleman who was respected, loved and adored in equal measure by all those who worked with him on the Governing Body. He excelled in charm, wit, intellect, ability and kindness, of which we will all remember him with fondness and sadness at what we have lost.
Geraint Evans, Chair of Governors said "I am devastated by the news of Bart's passing. Bart's attention to detail was legendary and he made a massive contribution to the development and success of the College. His contribution to our December Governors meeting was as insightful as ever. We will all miss Bart's great wit and wisdom but above all else, we will miss his passion for improving the lives of young people."
Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Patricia, daughters Nathalie, Camilla and Fiona, and his grandchildren, at this difficult time.
