The Level 2 in Game Design and Development is a BTEC Diploma delivered by Media Academy Cymru (MAC), in Cardiff.
This full-time course introduces students to the key areas of the creative media sector and focuses on students’ practical skills development; a creative media project and how to respond to a creative brief.
You will achieve a diploma in Creative Media Skills, equivalent to 3 GCSEs.
On this BTEC Level 2 programme you will learn how to:
Make a game from start to finish for a client in the local charity sector, and publish it!
Visual scripting
2D art
2D animation
Audio design
Level design
QA and bug testing
The work produced for each module will form the basis for assessment. Throughout the year you will build a comprehensive portfolio that will be significant for your progression to future education or employment.
MAC takes pride in delivering classes in a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere, focusing on your strengths to help you grow your confidence. You will learn in a small group of 12-16 students. Attendance of 90% and above is instrumental in your successful completion of the course.
This programme comprises of 4 coursework modules.
The course will take place in our Gaming Hub, where you will be using the latest high spec computers and will be taught on equipment used in professional game studios. All equipment and software will be provided by MAC.
No previous experience is required and there are no formal entry requirements. However, it is helpful if you have already achieved a BTEC Level 1 in Game/IT or have the equivalent experience. You will be invited to meet your tutors, so together, you can assess your suitability for the course. Once accepted onto the course, you will be invited for a taster session and complete a student profile. We especially welcome applications from students who have been unable to access similar opportunities elsewhere, are at risk of social exclusion, and are not in education, training or employment. This course is available to anyone between 16-25 years old.
Participants could progress to a Level 3 course in subjects such as: Indie game development; Game Design; Computer Art and Animation; Graphic Design; Audio Design; Software Development; Esports; Computing with Games Development & Coding; Multimedia; Creative Media Production. During the course, you will be supported to navigate your way to further education, training, apprenticeships or employment.
