About this course

This course is designed for anyone working in or alongside the IT profession who is expected to operate ethically in both society and business, from service desk operatives through to Chief Information Officers (CIOs). It is also highly relevant for business and digital leaders considering the adoption of AI within their organisations, digital practitioners seeking to upskill and strengthen their professional credentials, and employees who want to better understand the ethical implications of their work and decision-making.

In addition, the course is valuable for consumers who wish to become more informed and responsible participants in an increasingly technology-driven society.

What you will study

This course is accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS). To achieve certification, learners must successfully complete a short multiple-choice examination, which can be taken remotely. Teaching is delivered online through Microsoft Teams, providing flexible access for learners regardless of location.

This course explores:

  • The impact of AI in business and the level of responsibility organisations and individuals have when developing, implementing, and using AI technologies.
  • How the influence and accountability of AI scale beyond individual organisations to affect society as a whole, highlighting the ethical, social, and economic implications of widespread adoption.
  • Considers the potential harms that can arise from AI systems and the safeguards needed to minimise risks and promote responsible use.
  • Investigates the evolving role of humans in an AI-driven world, focusing on how people can work effectively alongside intelligent technologies while maintaining oversight, accountability, and ethical decision-making.
