About this course
This course is an advanced industry-recognised qualification designed to develop the comprehensive skills, knowledge and professional standards required of a fully qualified beauty therapist. Throughout the qualification, learners will gain hands-on experience using our professional products, equipment, and techniques in a real clinic environment. The qualification equips the learners with the practical expertise, theoretical understanding and professional confidence needed to excel in the beauty therapy industry.
What you will study
The course places strong emphasis on practical competence, consultation skills, anatomy and physiology and safe effective treatments to clients. Units covered: Body massage, facial and body electrotherapy, microdermabrasion, hot stone massage, tanning and lash extension.
Assessment methods include assignments, unit exams, and practical demonstrations. All learners attend late-night and rotaed Saturday commercial sessions part of their work-related education. Essential skills is a compulsory part of their study.

Entry requirements
3 GCSEs Grades A* - D including English Language (or equivalent). Satisfactory reference from Course Tutor. Alternatively, successful achievement of Level 1 and satisfactory reference. Satisfactory reference from School or College to indicate good behaviour, attendance and progress.

I really enjoyed my time studying at Cardiff and Vale College, it’s definitely helped me to get to where I wanted to be. I began on the Level 2 Beauty Therapy course and then progressed to the Level 3 Beauty and Spa Therapy. I then returned to do Level 4 Advanced Aesthetics. It was so great learning and getting valuable work experience in a real-life salon. The tutors were amazing, they were really helpful and supportive the whole way through. A real highlight for me was competing in the WorldSkills Competition and taking second place. Since leaving, I have set up my own salon, where I offer a range of different treatments. Next year I’ll be taking on a nail technician and a beauty therapist to help grow the business and offer even more services to my clients.

A successful completion enables learners to progress to work as a fully qualified therapist in salons, spas, clinics, cruise ships and wellness centres. Learners can also progress to level 4 Non-medical aesthetics and develop their skills further in advanced skin treatments.
