The Spanish GCSE is an intensive one-year course. It is aimed at students who already have some knowledge of the language. Students will practise the four language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, as well as several grammar tenses, and will be encouraged to use the target language wherever possible.
Although the course is suitable for beginners, previous study of Spanish or another foreign language is recommended.
The aim of the course is to prepare students to sit the WJEC Spanish GCSE Assessment, and to act as preparation for anyone wishing to continue their studies at A Level.
The WJEC GCSE Spanish course will cover a variety of topic areas:
• Youth culture
• Lifestyle
• Customs and traditions
• Home and locality
• The wider world
• Global sustainability
• Current study
• Enterprise, employability and future plans
The exam is divided equally across the four skill areas:
Unit 1: Listening (25%)
Unit 2: Speaking (25%)
Unit 3: Reading (25%)
Unit 4: Writing (25%)
All four skills will be assessed in class during the course and through four exams near the end of the course.
Course Fee: £380.00
Exam Fee: £35.00
Part-time enrolment fee: £35.00
There are no formal entry requirements for adult learners, but previous study of Spanish or another foreign language is necessary. This could include study of a foreign language at KS3, private study at home or with a tutor or consistent use of an online or digital tool such as a language app. All class communication outside of the lesson will be conducted through Microsoft TEAMS. You will also need to use a computer to complete coursework. Therefore, some knowledge and/or experience of Microsoft Office will be an advantage. Full-time students should have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade D.
