This course forms part of the Sixth Form Flex programme. Learners on this programme should choose this option if they intend upon the completion of the Sixth Form Flex programme to specifically apply for A Level Drama, English Literature, Film, Media and Religious Studies amongst others.
This qualification is split into 3 Units:
Unit 1: Prose and Poetry
Section A concerns Individual Texts in Context concerning Different Cultures Prose.
Section B is a Comparative Study of Contemporary Poetry
Unit 2: Contemporary Prose/Drama and Literary Heritage Prose/Drama
A study of a set text Drama and a set text Prose
Unit 3: Shakespeare and Welsh Writing in English
Section A: Shakespeare – A study of Othello or Much Ado About Nothing
Section B: Welsh Writing in English - Stipulated poetry from the Library of Wales anthology Poetry 1900-2000: One Hundred Poets from Wales. Candidates study fifteen specified poems listed for the chosen theme. WJEC will set generic tasks on the theme. Centres may use or modify one task. Centres must ensure that the task requires comparison of at least two poems.

4 GCSEs Grades A* - D, including English Language.
After you have applied, you will be invited to an Information Event. Attendance at the event is an entry requirement along with anything specified above. It would be helpful to your application if you could bring your evidence of your predicted grades or qualifications achieved.
Following the completion of this one year course, students will have a number of options for internal progression dependent upon the outcomes of each qualification. These will range from going on to complete 3 A Levels with the Welsh Baccalaureate to beginning a Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in a vocational course. Depending on the option taken, this will involve a further year or 2 years of study.
