The GCSE Biology programme offers students the opportunity to study the science of life from single-celled organisms to global ecosystems. Based at our City Centre campus in Cardiff, this course will examine the variety and complexity of life on earth, as well as hold discussions over the consequences of human activity.
The course consists of the following units:
Unit 1: CELLS, ORGAN SYSTEMS and ECOSYSTEMS
Written examination: 1 hour 45 minutes - 45% of qualification, 80 marks.
A mix of short answer questions, structured questions, extended writing and data response questions with some set in a practical context.
Unit 2: VARIATION, HOMEOSTASIS and MICRO-ORGANISMS
Written examination: 1 hour 45 minutes - 45% of qualification, 80 marks.
A mix of short answer questions, structured questions, extended writing and data response questions with some set in a practical context.
Unit 3: PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT
10% of qualification, 30 marks.
Practical assessment that will be carried out in centres, but will be externally marked by WJEC. It will take place in the first half of the Spring Term (January – February).

GCSE Maths and English grade D - it is recommended that learners have a minimum of a DD in Double Science however for learners where there has been a significant break in education alternatives will be taken into consideration
