About this course

This Criminal Psychology course is a 10-week, short-course running from September to December and is suitable for anyone interested in a career in law enforcement or psychology.  Throughout the course you will study a range of topics relating to criminal behaviour, offender profiling and forensic and criminal psychology.

What you will study

The course begins by looking at the definitions of criminal behaviour and approaches to understanding and solving crime. It then explores the use of psychological theories in the detection of crime. Next, it examines the development of offender profiling, exploring the relationship between profiling and behavioural analysis. Students will compare the use of behavioural profiling between the USA and the UK and examine and analyse the use of forensic psychology. Serious crime, e.g. murder and theories of criminal psychology will be considered and the unit draws to a close by investigating the myths and realities relating to serial killers.

Applicants must have a good level of Literacy as some independent writing is required and this will be assessed at interview.

Career prospects & further study

After completing this programme, successful candidates may progress onto a further Level 2 course, which would start in January. Many students will also pursue a Level 3 WJEC Certificate and Diploma in Criminology.
