About this course

This short course provides an in-depth exploration of current environmental challenges and their relationship to SUDS in Wales. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the environmental issues influencing water management and sustainable development, along with the legal and regulatory frameworks guiding SUDS implementation. The course covers key principles of SUDS design and management.  This course has been developed for every employee and employer within the construction and built environment sector. Carrying out any job role, from local authorities, developers to contractors and subcontractors installing and maintaining SUDS infrastructure.

What you will study

1. Identify and Explain Current Environmental Issues: Gain insight into the pressing environmental challenges, particularly those related to water management, flooding, and climate change, and their impact on both urban and rural settings.

2. Understand the Legal Framework for SUDS in Wales: Explore the main legislation, policies, and guidelines that govern the implementation of SUDS in Wales, including planning and regulatory requirements.

3. Identify the Pillars of SUDS: Learn about the core principles that underpin SUDS, including the four sustainability pillars: water quantity (flood prevention), water quality (pollution), amenity (human comfort) and biodiversity, and how these principles inform effective drainage solutions.

4. Examine Main SUDS Features: Study the different types of SUDS features, such as permeable pavements, detention basins, and green roofs, and assess their advantages and disadvantages in various contexts.

5. Assess the suitability of SUDS features: identify the Sustainability issues within a project scenario and assess the suitability of SUDS features to address each sustainability pillars.

By the end of this course, participants will have the knowledge and skills to apply SUDS principles to both theoretical and practical scenarios, making informed decisions on water management solutions in line with current environmental challenges and legal frameworks.
