About this course

Plasterers apply plaster to walls and ceilings ready for decorating and finishing. Salaries range from £19,000 to £34,000 a year dependent on experience. You’ll normally work in a team where you’ll:

  • Estimate the amount of materials needed for a job.
  • Prepare surfaces and level off uneven areas.
  • Mix plaster to the right consistency by hand or with an electric mixer.
  • Apply ‘wet’ finishes to walls and ceilings - solid plastering.
  • Create ornamental features like ceiling roses, cornices and architraves - fibrous plastering.
  • Fix internal plasterboard or wallboard partitions in rooms - dry lining.
  • Coat outside walls with protective coverings like pebbledash or render.

What you will study

You will cover modules in: 

  • 225 Solid plastering core knowledge  
  • 226 Produce internal solid plastering finishes 
  • 227 Apply solid render to background surfaces and produce finishes. 

Students need safety boots and a change of clothing whilst working with wet materials.

Entry requirements

Completion of a foundation course or experience of working as a plasterer within the industry. Suitable for students over the age of 19
