Wall & Floor Tiling - Taster
About this course
This course will enable you to develop some of the skills and techniques used in tiling.
What you will study
The assessment criteria includes the following:
- Demonstrate use of protective clothing.
- Identify tools required for tiling.
- Check that the surface to be tiled is clean and level.
- Apply adhesive to the surface to be tiled.
- Press tiles into position.
- Apply grouting into the spaces between tiles
- Remove excess grout.
- Polish tiles.
- Clear and tidy the work area.
- Dispose of waste materials appropriately.

I chose to study at the College because of the facilities here and because I’d heard so many good things about it locally. I’ve really enjoyed improving my skills in the workshops, making friends and learning from the staff – they’re very knowledgeable. The College gave me the opportunity to compete in last year’s WorldSkills competition, which I really enjoyed. I was also lucky enough to win Learner of the Year for Building Services, this was another highlight for me. I’ve just been accepted on to a degree course at the University of Bath. Once I finish this, I’ll be looking to get some more work experience and then start my own business.
