About this course

The aim of the course is to develop your knowledge, skills and understanding of working creatively with a variety of 2D and 3D felting techniques. The course will enable learners to explore, experiment with and understand wet felting, fulling, constructing, needle felting, 3D needle felting and the development of 3D felting forms.

You will be able to investigate and use felting materials and processes. You will build a portfolio of experimental and creative felt work and you will develop a 2D/3D final outcome of your choice drawing on the techniques and processes explored on the felting course.

What you will study

On the course we will cover:

  • Week 1: Wet felting
  • Week 2: Fulling and finishing wet felting 
  • Week 3: Deconstructing and reconstructing  
  • Week 4: 2D needle felting 
  • Week 5: 3D needle felting
  • Week 6: 3D needle felting joining multiple elements
  • Week 7: wet felting a bowl
  • Week 8 -10: Self-Identified Project (using felting processes of choice)


Facilities

The college has extensive Art & Design workshops and computer facilities. This course will be based in the Fashion and textiles rooms with access to a wide range of specialist facilities that you will need for this course. Other specialist areas include fine art, ceramics and printmaking.

Entry requirements

Applicants need no prior experience with textiles or art and design practices.
