Digital Media Diploma in Journalism CTEC - Year 2
About this course
This unique level 3 CTEC qualification is for post-16 learners who would like to continue their education through applied learning with the view to progressing to higher education and/or to employment. Future employment pathways include journalism, media production & publishing. The course will introduce digital media practices and will enable learners to develop the transferable and higher-order skills that are highly valued by universities and employers.
The course is equivalent to two A levels as will be taken alongside other A level or BTEC qualifications.
What you will study
The Diploma consists of 13 Units (720 GLH) over 2 years – 5 of which are mandatory:
- Unit 1: Media Products & Audiences (Externally Assessed Exam: 90 GLH)
- Unit 2: Pre-production & Planning (Externally Assessed Exam: 90 GLH)
- Unit 3: Create a media product (Internally Assessed: 60 GLH)
- Unit 4: Interactive Media Product (Internally Assessed: 60 GLH)
- Unit 6: Social Media & Globalisation (Externally Assessed Exam: 60 GLH)
The optional units are each worth 60 or 30 GLH. The following Units will be undertaken:
- Unit 7: Journalism & the news industry (Internally Assessed: 60 GLH)
- Unit 8: Photography for digital media products (Internally Assessed: 60 GLH)
- Unit 9: Comics & graphic novel storytelling (Internally Assessed: 60 GLH)
- Unit 10: Create a digital animation (Internally Assessed: 60 GLH)
- Unit 13: Graphic Design for digital media products (Internally Assessed: 30 GLH)
- Unit 21: Plan & Deliver a Pitch (Internally Assessed: 30 GLH)
- Unit 23: Create a personal media profile (Internally Assessed: 30 GLH)
- Unit 24: Cross media industry awareness (Internally Assessed: 30 GLH)
