About this course

This qualification is aimed at learners who wish to gain an introduction to payroll processing using commercially available payroll software and gain a formal qualification, either from the point of no previous knowledge or having worked in a payroll environment with no accredited payroll qualification. Learners considering a career as a self-employed practitioner will find the qualification invaluable as a starting platform, as will business owners who would like to be actively involved in gathering and processing payroll data and keeping payroll records for the business.

What you will study

This qualification aims to provide learners with a comprehensive range of knowledge and skills that will be used as a payroll processor for various businesses. On successful completion, the learner will have the knowledge and skills to:

  • Act as an introduction to payroll record keeping and processing, giving learners the necessary skills to record financial payroll transactions in a computerised environment and in line with Real-Time Information requirements.
  • Assess their competence in carrying out a range of basic day-to-day payroll routines using a computerised payroll system. The activities will include calculating pay data and processing that data, including contributions to work-based pension schemes, using day-to-day payroll processing skills.
  • Provide learners with the necessary underpinning knowledge and skills to assess the implications of maintaining accuracy when performing any payroll tasks in a computerised environment.
  • Understand the importance of security and confidentiality in performing payroll tasks in a computerised environment.
