Seven students from Cardiff and Vale College travelled to Birmingham on the weekend to take part in the UK finals of WorldSkills – known as the ‘skills Olympics – and came away with medals and commendations.
Morgan McNeil won silver and Scott Roberts won bronze in the UK-wide WorldSkills Network Systems finals. Kristian Brooks was highly commended in Network Systems Administrator and Holly Edwards was highly commended in the Beauty Skills Practitioner finals.

Cardiff and Vale College Deputy Principal Sharon James said: “Congratulations and a massive well done to Morgan, Scott, Kristian and Holly – you have all proved that your among the best in the UK in your fields. It is an incredible achievement for everyone who has taken part and testament to your hard work and determination.
“I would also like to congratulate all the CAVC staff who have worked so tirelessly, frequently in their own time, to train the competitors and enable them to compete to this high standard.”
Each year the College sends its experienced industry expert staff to the WorldSkills UK Finals as judges. This year Automotive lecturers Ben Young, Lee Summerhayes, Peter Gibbons, Richard Power and Dan Sweet and Cyber Security and IT System Support Lecturer Peter Franklin took part as judges. Busloads of CAVC students and staff also attended the event to cheer on the CAVC competitors.
