English Language - GCSE

You will learn how language is used to engage, argue, persuade and describe through varied activities including reading and analysing texts, planning and writing different types of texts, presentations and discussions.

Assessment is by a combination of controlled assessment and examination across three Units of Study.

Unit 1: Controlled Assessment Oracy: two spoken language tasks 20% of overall GCSE grade.
Unit 2 & 3: Examination May/June: reading comprehension and writing skills. 80% of overall GCSE grade.

Learners must have evidence of a C+ grade in GCSE English Language, or have achieved a D grade in the past two years. Learners who achieved: a D grade more than two years ago; a grade lower than a D, or an alternative level two English qualification (ESW, IELTS 6.0, Cambridge) should apply for one of our September start date courses. Learners cannot enrol on this evening class in addition to a full-time course.
