This Carpentry course is an ideal entry course to introduce you to the carpentry and joinery sector and develop your hand techniques. The trade is suited to those who are practically minded, hands- on and are interested in training with wood-working techniques, materials and methods used in the industry.
You will be learning in our workshops to help you develop your skills. This includes training with handheld tools, including handsaws, planes and chisels, and portable power tools, such as power drills, power saws, planers and routers and power sanders. As you develop your confidence and abilities with these tools you will mark out and produce woodworking joints and frames.
To achieve the Level 1 Diploma in Construction Skills Carpentry learners must achieve a minimum of 37 credits form a range of units that will include,
Candidates must have three GCSEs A* - G including in Mathematics and English. Applicants also need to attend an information evening. PPE/Equipment needed to study: safety boots, work clothing or overalls to change for practical sessions.
After completing this course you can go on to complete the full 2-year Extended Diploma. Many students progress onto courses at university, others go directly into employment. CAVC offers a HNC in Sport Coaching which if competed successfully leads on to a top up at Cardiff Metropolitan University to complete the full degree course.
