The course comprises of the following Skills and Knowledge:

• Health, safety & good housekeeping in the automotive environment
• Support for job roles in the automotive work environment
• Tools & equipment used in vehicle refinishing
• Applying fillers and foundation materials
• Preparing metal and pre-painted surfaces
• Repairing minor paint defects
• Working with plastic materials and components

The main qualification is the same as that used in the Vehicle Refinishing Apprenticeship, and can be used to fulfil part of the Apprenticeship Framework.

The course is split 50-50 workshop and classroom based and gives the student a good grounding in the operation of a body shop, preparing them for employment. It is run over two and a half full days, allowing student’s time for employment in the remainder of the week.

This course follows the Automotive Learning Area Programme (LAP) and as such, includes Essential Skills Units and the possibility of a week’s work experience with a local body shop.

Achievement of Level 1 Diploma in Automotive, or 3 GCSEs Grade A* - D including Maths (or equivalent). Successful candidates will require PPE for this course, including steel toe cap boots and overalls.
