HE Bursaries and Scholarships

CAVC has the following bursaries and scholarship that students on undergraduate, higher education programmes can apply for to support their studies.

Progression Bursary
This bursary is designed to help with the costs of equipment associated with studying to the value of £500. You may be eligible if you are assessed as having a 'home' fees status and are studying on a full or part-time, undergraduate, higher education course having progressed directly from a level 3 course at Cardiff and Vale College. The bursary is a single award during the first year of study.  Students awarded a Progression Bursary will not be eligible for another bursary during the remaining years of study at Cardiff and Vale College.

Care Leavers / Carers Bursary
The bursary provides support up to the value of £500 for full-time students, pro rata for part-time study. It is available to UK nationals starting in 2022, studying on an undergraduate, higher education course, who meet the criteria below:

responsible for providing unpaid care for a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, mental health problem or an addiction cannot cope without support.

have not reconciled with their parents between leaving care and starting their course


*Applicants will need to provide a letter from the Local Authority (LA) or Care Authority, confirming they were under the care of the LA for a period of at least 13 weeks from the age of 14, have now left the care of the LA, and are a care leaver as defined in the Children (Leaving Care) Act.

**Please note that these duties would be in addition to the usual caring responsibilities that a parent would have for a dependent child. Applicants will need to provide confirmation from a person, who is involved with the family on a professional basis (e.g., Social Worker, GP etc) that they are a carer or a letter from your Local Authority/Social Services or Carers Support Group.


The CAVC Bursary
The CAVC bursary is designed to help with the day to day costs of studying at college. It provides financial support of up to a maximum of £300, pro-rata for part-time study (not including repeat or placement years). You may be eligible if you are 
assessed as having a ‘home’ fees status,studying on a full or part-time, undergraduate, higher education course. In addition, your permanent residence must be from a low participation in higher education postcode area (UK domiciled undergraduates only).

Students can only make one bursary application within an academic year. Students receiving a Progression Bursary in the first year cannot apply for a different bursary in the subsequent years of study. All bursaries will be paid in December 2022, subject to confirmation of a student’s tuition fee loan or payment of tuition fees has been received in full. Students enrolled on a higher apprenticeship are not eligible for a bursary, as their apprenticeship is funded by the Welsh Government.

Applications for Bursaries open during November 2022 and details will be communicated to students at this time.

Sports Scholarship
The Sports Scholarship is available to high level athletes of any sport who are representing their region or country competitively or have the potential to do so whilst studying a HE course at the college. Cardiff and Vale College are committed to supporting high level athletes wanting to pursue dual pathways, combining both academic studies with competing on the National and International stage in their chosen sport. These are single awards to the sum of £500.
