This course is for young people who are working towards an independent, happy and active life after college. Towards Independence is one of our Personalised Learning Pathways (PLP), which offer learners the flexibility to focus on areas of their personal development that are important to them. Learners will be supported to create their own learning pathways, based on their personal targets, interests and aspirations.
Throughout the academic year, learners will participate in a variety of projects specifically designed to facilitate opportunities for skill development in a range of areas. These projects provide meaningful learning experiences, encourage self-advocacy and promote independence.
Learners will follow personalised learning pathways, based on their individual targets. These pathways can include learning in the following curriculum areas;
Learners will be supported to recognise and record their progress and achievements in a way that is exciting and accessible to them. This may include building e-portfolios, using written work, photographs, videos clips, soundbites and infographics.
Our Personalised Learning Pathways offer learners the flexibility to focus on areas of their personal development that are important to them. For this reason, this course is a non-accredited route.
You will want to be on a course in order to develop skills for independence. Instead of applying online, applications are managed by our Transition and Review Officer who will liaise with your current education providers. They can be contacted by emailing hwilliams@cavc.ac.uk. You will have opportunities to take part in transition activities and also attend experience days to meet key college staff.
If you show progression in your employability targets you may be able to progress to our Work and Life course.
If on completion of this course you are not ready to progress to a Work and Life skills course you may be offered a second year on this course if:
1. This was your first year in college, and
2. You have made progress against your targets
I like my lessons, teacher and being with my friends at college. I enjoy cooking and working on the iPad in my lessons and have learnt to write my name! My teachers at the college are always kind and happy. I like coming to college because I always learn new things. My favourite thing to do is when we go on the bus to go shopping and buy ingredients for our cooking lessons! I would tell my friends to come to college because it is brilliant and fun!
