About this course
Our BTEC Level 4 Fashion and Fashion Editorial Hair and Make-up course, is a qualification aimed for those who want to increase their skill level in the Theatrical and Media Make-up Field.
Students will explore the Fashion and Fashion Editorial field. You will research current trends and undertake a fashion editorial project. Through this unit, students will develop Fashion and Fashion editorial hair and/or makeup designing abilities whilst developing the technical skills required to work within a diverse variety of contexts to industry standards. Students will also develop their team working skills.
This programme offers learners a broad introduction to the subject area via a mandatory core of learning, while allowing for the acquisition of skills and experience.
This FREE course is only available to adults that are eligible for a Personal Learning Account (PLA). Personal Learning Accounts, funded by the Welsh Government, are available to employed adults living in Wales that wish to develop skills to progress or change career.

What you will study
During this unit you will explore the historical development of hair and/or makeup styling in the Fashion and Fashion Editorial Industry. You will demonstrate Fashion and Fashion Editorial hair and/or makeup techniques., You will also undertake a role in a Fashion or Fashion Editorial Project working to a set brief. Finally analysing the strengths of the project in meeting the requirements of the brief and areas for future development.
- Students attend for 6 weeks part-time’
- Monday evening 4.00pm-8.00pm
- Wednesday evening 4.00pm-8.00pm
This is one unit of the HNC. Teaching methods include lectures, whole group information-giving sessions, workshops, tutorials, practical work, and blended e-learning and group critiques.
Assessment for the course is designed, where possible, to simulate the variety of tasks that graduates from the programme may encounter in relevant employment. Where necessary other academic assessment devices, such as a formal examination are also used. The practical work will reflect real-world techniques that practitioners would encounter in the performing arts sector.
Candidates who achieve this unit qualification may go on to study a full HNC/D and further academic and professional qualifications or embark on an administrative, managerial or commercial career.
Entry requirements
48 UCAS tariff points gained from either:
- A-levels
- A BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma or Diploma in an appropriate subject.
- An Access to Higher Education Diploma - 60 credits overall to include 45 level 3 credits all passes.
- Other level 3 qualifications may be acceptable.
- GCSEs in Maths and English with a minimum of grade C (or 4)
- International Applicants require IELTS 5.5; Reading and Writing must be at 5.5
- Applications from mature students, without the standard entry requirements but with related work experience, will be considered.
