About this course

This intensive part time course, covers two modules of EAL Level 3 Certificate in Robotics and Automation Modules: Unit 4 Robot Processes and Functions and Unit 7 Robot Programming, is ideal for all learners who are interested in both Mechatronics and Robotics. 

The course will provide you with the core skills and knowledge required to control and manipulate an industrial robot. The course gives you the fantastic opportunity to learn about various parts of mechatronics systems topics including sensors, actuators and control in theory, simulation and physical construction and builds. 
The course is 6 hours per day for a week.

Mature Applicants: We welcome applications from mature students (aged 21 and over) and do not necessarily require the same academic qualifications as school leaving applicants.
By the end of the course, the learners will have achieved a nationally recognised EAL Level 3 certificate in Robotics and Automation of Units 4 and 7.

This FREE course is only available to adults that are eligible for a Personal Learning Account (PLA). Personal Learning Accounts, funded by the Welsh Government, are available to employed adults living in Wales that wish to develop skills to progress or change career.

What you will study

On successful completion of these two units students will be able to:

  1. Understand industrial robot processes and functions by examining the design and operational characteristics of a mechatronic system.
  2. Operate an industrial robot in a safe manner to execute a pre-existing programme.
  3. Program an industrial robot.
  4. Solve faults on mechatronic systems using a range of techniques and methods.

Facilities

The course is based at CAVC’s International Centre for Aerospace. It offers a truly unique learning experience with ‘themed’ and high-tech classrooms, including LABs Robotics and dedicated workshops. Equipped with tools, machinery and software, it exposes the learner to a professional environment adopted in the Robotics and Mechatronics industry such Sawyer Rethink Robot arm, AR10 Humanoid Hand, two Universal Robots and Pepper robot.

Two Universal Robots will be available to study, work on and program.

Entry requirements

Learners must be at least 16 years old. Applicants who hold three GCSE Grade A* to D or equivalent. To include A* to D in ICT and English subjects. Learners must have the potential to achieve all aspects of the course. In particular, learners should be able to demonstrate that they have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy required to comply with the health and safety aspects of the scheme, the completion of the learning outcomes, and the assessments.

Upon successful completion you can progress onto advanced topics in Robotics and Mechatronics projects and applications by studying other modules of EAL courses.
By the end of the course, the learners will have achieved a nationally recognised EAL Level 3 certificate in Robotics and Automation of Units 4 and 7.
