About this course

This CACHE Level 2 Diploma for Children's Care, Learning and Development (Wales and Northern Ireland) qualification is designed to help learners build the knowledge and skills needed when working under supervision with children and young people from birth to 19 years of age.  This programme covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas working in children's settings including early years.

Studying in our dedicated classrooms and facilities, students will spend three days a week in college, and two days in a work experience placement. Occasional blocks of one or two weeks of work experience are integrated into the course.

What you will study

This course combines classroom based activities and practical assessed work experience, including topics such as:

  • An introduction to working with children
  • Safe, healthy and nurturing environments for children
  • Children and play
  • Communication and professional skills within childcare and education
  • Child and young people development
  • The childcare practitioner in the workplace
  • Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people

NB: It is sometimes difficult for those under 18 years of age to obtain employment with children. We would therefore recommend that those wishing to move into employment after completing the CACHE Level 2 Diploma should be at least 17 years of age when they begin the course.

Applicants for courses in Health and Social Care or Early Years are required by law to have a clear DBS check.  This needs to be completed on-line prior to enrolment and will cost approximately £44.00.
