Certificate in Counselling Skills
About this course
This Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (CPCAB) course will suit anyone interested in developing their listening skills or beginning counselling training. This programme is interactive, as well as experiential, and students will be expected to write a reflective weekly journal to track their personal development, skills and understanding of helping at Level 2.

A variety of teaching methods will be used, including role play. Assessment will be in the form of weekly reflective journals, 3 assignments and an external exam.
Entry requirements
GCSE Grade A*-C in English Language or Level 2 in Essential skills Communication. Applicants without the above will be required to undertake an online skills assessment. An ability to write and submit online a 700 word reflective journal and complete written assignments is essential. Applicants must be 18 or over.

Barry: 09:30 - 12:30 (Wednesday)
18:00 - 21:00 (Thursday)
Cardiff: 18:00 - 21:00 (Tuesday and Wednesday)
Teaching and assessment
Teaching will be via lectures, discussions, group work and role plays. The following units will be covered :
1. Use counselling skills ethically and
Safely
2. Establish and sustain the
boundaries of the helping role
3. Work empathically as a helper
4. Focus on the helpee’s needs and
Concerns
5. Use self-awareness in helping work
6. Use a range of counselling skills to
facilitate the helping interaction
7. Use feedback and reflection to
enhance counselling skills
Assessment is via weekly reflective journals of 700 words.
Three assignments of 1,000 words, creating an online portfolio by the end of the course.
