About Sport and Public Services
At CAVC we are serious about providing students with the skills and qualifications to achieve a career in the sport industry. Our sport courses are based in Cardiff International Sports Campus – the inspirational new home for CAVC Sport. This facility features classrooms alongside excellent sports facilities including a large gym, fitness studios, 3G pitch and athletics track. You will also have the chance to develop your skills through opportunities including running coaching sessions or undertaking work placements in sport. Our sport courses cover all aspects of sport – from sports and exercise science, to sports performance and excellence, to leisure management – helping you choose your future career. Public Services develop your physical fitness alongside the desired knowledge and skills to start careers in one of the uniformed services.
Many students choose to take a professional industry qualification with CAVC after the age of 18 to become a qualified Gym Instructor or Personal Trainer. Others go on to higher education with universities across the UK, or stay at CAVC to take the well-respected HND in Sport Coaching run in partnership with Cardiff Metropolitan University.
Currently, there are over 13,000 people working in Public and Uniformed Services occupations and over 7,600 people employed in sports occupations (EMSI, 2016). Over 41,000 people employed in both areas across wales which is set to grow 2.4%.
