Welsh language Childcare courses now available at CAVC
People who are interested in a career in childcare can now gain the skills and qualifications they need through the medium of Welsh at Cardiff and Vale College.
The Level 2 Childcare and Development Course has been designed to complement Welsh language education while also helping learners meet the needs of Welsh language legislation. Designed to help students become more employable under requirements for bilingual service provision, the year-long course is based at the College’s landmark £45m new City Centre Campus in Cardiff.
“We are offering the course to help with the continuity of Welsh medium education,” Childcare Lecturer Karen Davies explained. “With the Welsh Language Act the need for childcare professionals, such as nursery nurses, who speak Welsh will become paramount.”
“I’m really enjoying the course – I enjoyed doing Welsh in school and I wanted to carry on speaking it while at college,” Childcare student Emily Marshall said. “This course is going to help me with the qualifications I want to do my PGCE and become a teacher while improving my Welsh language skills as well.”
Fellow Childcare student Montanna Deacon added: “It’s a great course with a great teacher. I enjoy speaking Welsh and I think it’s really important to have courses in Welsh.
“It gives students a choice of whether they want to learn in English or Welsh and it’s good that I get to carry on learning in Welsh.”
