Renowned coach Martyn Fowler joins CAVC to set up a Rugby Academy

Former Cardiff RFC Director of Rugby and Cardiff University Head of Rugby Martyn Fowler has joined Cardiff and Vale College to establish a world-class Rugby Academy.

Martyn, a name synonymous with rugby in Cardiff, said he was excited to take the lead in CAVC’s Rugby Academy. “The Academy will be comparable with any of the four regions with its player development and player pathway, while it will also develop a broader holistic model that promotes an environment where academic and sporting excellence can be developed hand in hand,” he said.

“Having come from a University environment and having established friendship’s and working relationships with Universities throughout the country I can assist students when planning their University choices and also assist where applicable assist with mentor and workplace opportunities having a large alumni network to call upon,” Martyn continued. “I have very strong working relationships with the three Blues Region Universities; Cardiff University, Cardiff Metropolitan and the University of South Wales (Pontypridd & Treforest) for those not wishing to leave the region.”

Martyn is a Level 4 coach with more than 15 years’ coaching experience. Five of those years were spent coaching in the Principality Premiership with Bedwas RFC and Cardiff RFC. He is extremely excited about setting up a Rugby Academy at CAVC.

“Such is the potential of the Rugby Academy at Cardiff and Vale College I have chosen to leave two of the most prestigious and well know institutions in the Country in Cardiff University and Cardiff Rugby Football Club in order to place all efforts in making the Cardiff and Vale College Academy one that students from Cardiff, the Vale and beyond aspire to be a part of,” he explained.
