FEDS fly high at RAF Cranwell

Cardiff and Vale College’s football team the FEDS scored a soaring victory at a recent tournament held at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire.

The Football Education Development Scheme (FEDS) team – coached by Sport Lecturer James Young and Gym Assistant Matthew Roberts - made the long trek to Lincolnshire for the CCLO football tournament. The other three teams competing in the tournament were South Birmingham College, Coleg Gwent’s Usk Campus and Birmingham Metropolitan College.

The tournament consisted of two semi-finals with the two successful teams competing in the final.  In the semi-final, CAVC was drawn against Coleg Gwent and won with an impressive 6-2 to CAVC with the goals coming from Zach Cleary, Jordan Tyler, James Price and a hat trick from Ed Smith.

In the other semi-final Birmingham Metropolitan were far too strong for South Birmingham winning 11-1. This set up a very competitive final between Birmingham Metropolitan and Cardiff and Vale College.

“The final was played under extremely windy conditions with Cardiff and Vale playing against the wind in the first half,” James Young said. “We found ourselves 2-1 down at half time but with the wind behind us in the second half we were confident that we could get back into the game.

“After a committed second half the final score was a victorious 3-2 to Cardiff and Vale College with a penalty from captain Ed Halls and a brace from Lloyd Allen. The CAVC team will return next season to defend their title.”
