Decision due on £40m new site for Cardiff and Vale College
Then final decision on where Cardiff and Vale College will build a new state-of-the-art £40m site will be taken next month.
CAVC is currently evaluating two sites, one in Tyndall Street and one on Dumballs Road. The Welsh Government recently approved the business case for a £20m grant to the College, and the decision on which site the College will build on will be taken in mid-March.
College Principal and Chief Executive Mike James said: “When Cardiff and Vale College was created, a vision was set out to transform learning across the capital region of Wales. As part of this, the college produced a ten-year capital development programme worth £98m to create sector-leading learning environments for the community throughout Cardiff and the Vale. Over the next decade, this ambitious and exciting plan will see us working with partners, securing funding and developing centres for learning that are second to none.
“A significant part of this is a £40m new build for Cardiff city centre, supported by a £20m grant from the Welsh Government. We are now coming to the end of the procurement process to secure and it is now between two sites – one on Tyndall Street and the other on Dumballs Road.
“Both are within the financial and professional services enterprise zone, ensuring that the College is centre place to support business within the capital. Both are also within walking distance of Cardiff central train and bus stations, so provide excellent transport connections for individuals and businesses across the region.
“A decision on which site is yet to be made and will be announced in mid-March. Once the site is selected, further information will then be announced.”
