CAVC students help construct new campus
A group of Engineering students from Cardiff and Vale College have had placements working on the College’s £45m new site at Canal Parade.
The five students from across the College’s sites worked on a range jobs at the new campus in Cardiff Bay. The placements were part of developer Willmott Dixon’s commitment to giving CAVC students experience opportunities at Canal Parade, which will open to students and the public next year.
The students were: Callum Martin, James Bell and Myles Hillard, who are all Pathways to Apprenticeships in Electrical Installation students; Luke Quinn, a Pathways to Apprenticeships in Heating and Ventilation learner and Nicholas Chin, who is studying full-time Plumbing Skills Level 2.
Nicholas, who is 34 and from Cardiff, said: “I’ve been using a drop saw and using measurements to cut material. We were also taken to another site where all the pipework was in place. I am going back to Canal Parade in a few weeks.
“It’s been a really good experience – I got to make contact with a number of companies and I got to do the CMB Electrical induction which tells you all about what to do on site. That was really useful for me.”
