CAVC students take top three prizes in national IT competition - again!
Not content with winning Gold, Silver and Bronze in the finals of Skills Competition Wales, three IT students from Cardiff and Vale College have won the top three places in the UK National WorldSkills heats.
Arron Davies, who is 19 and from Cardiff, won Gold in both Skills Competition Wales and WorldSkills Microsoft IT Technician competitions. “I’m chuffed,” he said. “I am really over the moon. It was quite a surprise because I didn’t think I had done that well.”
While Dhiraj Hirani, 18 and from Cardiff, won Bronze in the Welsh finals, he scooped the Silver at the National Competition in Bedford. “I was really pleased to win Silver as the competition looked tough,” Dhiraj said.
Neal Hirani, also 18 and from Cardiff, won Silver last time, in the UK National Competition he won Bronze. Neal said: “I was surprised to even have come third because I didn’t think I had done that well at all. I really did not think that I was going to be in the top three.”
All three of the learners study the Extended Diploma in IT, Network and System Support at the College’s Parade campus in Cardiff. Their Lecturer Peter Franklin said: “The highest scoring competitors will go on to compete in the WorldSkills Show in Birmingham this November. So if Arron, Dhiraj and Neal are in the top 80% nationwide they will go to Birmingham and stand a chance of going to the world-wide event in Sao Paolo next year. They are doing extremely well and they stand an excellent chance.”
