CAVC and CCFC Ladies 5-a-side are Welsh Colleges Champions
Cardiff and Vale College’s ladies 5-a-side football team, working with Cardiff City Football Club’s Futsal programme, has won the Welsh Colleges Championships.
CAVC beat Merthyr Tydfil College in the final 4-3. Kanisha Underdown scored two goals, while the remaining two were hit home by Megan Bailey and Shannon Evans.
The team, which played nine matches and won all nine in the tournament, will now go on to represent Wales Colleges in the British Colleges Sport National Championships.
CAVC Programme Area Leader for Sport, Outdoor Education & Public Services James Young said: “From the outset of the competition the CAVC / CCFC Futsal players were the outstanding performers. Individually and collectively, our girls were technically and tactically more advanced and showed the required desire to win the competition, while remaining unbeaten throughout. We wish them all the best in the British Colleges Sport National Championships, which are being held in Bath University from the 4th to the 6th April 2014.”
Cardiff and Vale College and CCFC have work in partnership for the last six years on a range of project relating to sport and the community. The House of Sport I and II developments at Cardiff City Stadium are one example a joint College and Club initiative where CAVC Sports students train and learn.
