Cardiff and Vale College student is top Welsh trampolinist

A Cardiff and Vale College student Sport student is set to represent Wales at a national trampolining tournament later this month.

Having won the Welsh Colleges competition in trampolining, Katherine Benson will travel to Bath University for the British Colleges Sport National Finals. Some 25,000 people take part in the event each year.

The 18-year-old from Dinas Powys is studying for a BTEC Diploma in Sport and Science. Katherine said: “I’m really excited about winning this competition. I was a bit nervous at first but as soon as I started it got better and I enjoyed myself. I’m nervous and excited at the same time all over again about going to the finals in Bath because representing Wales is such a great honour.

“I’ve had a big interest in trampolining from a young age – I started when I was about eight so I’ve been doing it has been nearly ten years since the very first time I got on a trampoline.”

Katherine would like to progress on to a Sport Science course at University once she has finished at College, and is interested in a career as a physiotherapist.

CAVC (Vale) Sport Lecturer Andrea Williams added: “Katherine will go to the British Colleges Finals at Bath University on March 30th. It’s a massive event and a fantastic achievement – Katherine is the first student we’ve ever had to go through in trampolining. As a department we are all very proud and we all wish her the best in the British Colleges Final.”
