Cardiff and Vale College student Harriet nets a place on Welsh Netball Performance Pathway
Harriet Powell, a player with Cardiff and Vale College’s Netball Academy, has been selected for the Cardiff and Vale Performance Training Centre (PTC).
PTCs are designed to give young talented players an environment in which they can develop the necessary skills to progress within Welsh Netball’s Performance Pathway. Both the Wales U21 Long Squad and U21 Talent Squad are selected from the PTCs and Welsh Netball’s talent identification programmes.
In October Harriet, a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport student, was selected for the Cardiff and Vale County U18 netball team.
“It’s amazing,” Harriet, who is 17 and from Blackwood, said of her latest selection. “It’s like this year couldn’t get better – I’ve been selected for the county and now for the PTC as well.
“The PTC is programme that will definitely bring out the best in me and I’ll learn new skills. It will show me what I need to work on to become a better netball player.”
Launched in September, Cardiff and Vale College’s Netball Academy provides a supportive and specialist environment that combines first-class coaching and sports facilities with the College’s expanding portfolio of courses. Players can study A Levels or vocational courses while training to become the netball stars of the future.
The Academy, which trains and plays its home games at Cardiff City House of Sport, is coached by Welsh international player Kyra Jones, who has represented Wales at the Netball World Cup and Commonwealth Games.
